MURO

Inspired by Cuadra San Cristóbal

At Cuadra San Cristóbal, Barragán transformed the wall into something more than a boundary. Large planes of color contain space, while simultaneously opening up to frame the garden, reveal the sky, and accompany the movement of those who inhabit it. Conceived as part of an equestrian complex, the project establishes a unique relationship between architecture, nature, water, and scale.

MURO originates from one of those gestures. Barón & Vicario takes the essential geometry of the plane and abstracts it into an object. The void becomes as important as the material: what is removed from the form allows one to look through it, in the same way that the openings at San Cristóbal transform the wall into a frame for its surroundings.
